My conclusion is, the problem is neither related to MediaWiki, WordPress nor any other website technology. The problem can also be observed on other websites. Therefore my conclusion is, the problem is not related to different versions of MediaWiki. There are not identical, but similar problems. To investigative this assumption, I installed the sample images on another MediaWiki instance (German website), running under a different MediaWiki version (1.28.0).
